money...

Both rides this weekend featured a mid-journey sesh @ Wagontrain. Saturday's trail conditions were nearly perfect, Sunday was money! I hate to admit this but that was only my 3rd & 4th trip to Wagontrain. That place is all kinds of fun.

If my pattern continues I won't be back for a year or two. Maybe it's better that way, it'll always be super-fresh when I come back to visit. Thanks to all the folks that keep it up, great job!

dvr's set...

This has nothing to do with tomorrow's match, England v. Ireland on BBCAmerica, 11:30am. No commercials, just 2 straight hours of rugby. Pregame at 11:00.

end of an era, or something...

For over 9 years there has been a car parked on 1/2 of our drive. Last week that ended, finally. The old Jetta has finally left the property. We've been a one car family for years because ol' jettie had gradually deteriorated to the point of "why fix anything if we don't drive it" status & ultimately came down to "why do we still have this thing" status. Jettie was still useful as a driveway ornament: place to lean a bike, temporary workbench for yard work (hood or trunk lid), & drop-zone for friends picking up or leaving items. "I'll leave it in the Jetta" or "just stick in the Jetta".

The list grew...exhaust was rusted out (LOUD), tires we're at the end of their life, passenger wiper didn't work, & (if you follow this blog) the infamous couldn't make it to Lawrence fiasco from 2 summers ago, we'll call it a stalling issue? Jettie did get me home from that botched attempt to leave town with her, but it was her way of saying, "I'm done".
Under the cloak of night, with expired registration, no insurance, & the thunder of the bad exhaust we crossed Lincoln to jettie's final resting place. As we made the final couple turns to the finish line, I opened her up, pedal nearly to the floor. She roared with contempt through her bad exhaust in between the quiet industrial buildings. We parked, removed the expired plates & left. We did get something for her, not much. We did get our driveway back though.
in the driveway, a couple rust nuggets is all that remains...

yep...

...I'm a dumb-ass. No, not this picture of my finger...
this...MMR is not rideable, fooled again. Actually, I'm the fool...again. "How to rip off a rear derailleur", didn't happen but I'm working on it. Two weeks in a row.
Interesting how the B roads in the Bohemian Alps are clay, but you go just 30 miles NW (if that) & it's all sand. Well maybe not that interesting, but I've been bogged down in both soil types at different times.
Eventually rolled in to Brainard. Sodas, chips, & candy available here, nice folks. Why here? Apparently the "real store" burned down & this is where you go.
It was supposed to be in the 40's. It was supposed to be light winds. We got neither. Character building. Me, Cornbread, MG, esss-big, AG, Janna (rocking the SS in the alps!), & Jordan gutted out the journey North. Good riding folks!
Always fun to peek inside...
Tailwind back South, cake right? Chose the Oak Creek Trail, should be rideable? Yeah it was, but it was 12 miles of soft crushed limestone with a cross-headwind. Character building.

Oh yeah...I'm a dumb-ass part 2, or is it part 3. All day Friday I was saying to myself that I was going to just ride a steady pace on Saturday & not kill myself, ruining Sunday's ride because I would be wasted from Saturday. Mission accomplished...I destroyed myself today & tomorrow is going to be recovery at best, dumb-ass.

character building...

...says the wise sage DK. The route or the weather? I guess the whole package. I knew it would get cold again & it may even snow this week but I had to drag my ass, mentally, outta the house this morning.
New meet-spot? Nope. Just a random house-mug at Cultiva. Hi Aaron & Janna...
whoops! B Rd. MMR is not quite there yet, unless your PC. Us fools on the CX rigs were all bogged down in thick clay, PC rocked it on the 26" mtb & left us in the dust. Skillz. Actually dark-knight (appeared later outta nowhere?) also "cleaned" this 2 mile section, mas skillz. Below: impromptu clean-up, this went on for about 20 minutes. Our dub-g guests from Omaha, Rafal & Lucas are in there somewhere enjoying the muddy fun...
the wise-one...
no comment...
I struggled today. Pedaled squares, rectangles, you name it. A few miles from Lincoln I felt the hollow feeling of a bonk approaching, it quickly became a "I better get some sugar in me" moment. Aaron & I headed for the Yankee Hill Amoco by the Regional Center...wtf! Closed down, out of business! I spied a bag of candy in AG's feedbag, a handful of frozen sour patch kids saved the day. Thanks man!
Good crew, good vibe, hard effort. I'm hurtin' for certain. Thanks guys:)
