For over 9 years there has been a car parked on 1/2 of our drive. Last week that ended, finally. The old Jetta has finally left the property. We've been a one car family for years because ol' jettie had gradually deteriorated to the point of "why fix anything if we don't drive it" status & ultimately came down to "why do we still have this thing" status. Jettie was still useful as a driveway ornament: place to lean a bike, temporary workbench for yard work (hood or trunk lid), & drop-zone for friends picking up or leaving items. "I'll leave it in the Jetta" or "just stick in the Jetta".
The list grew...exhaust was rusted out (LOUD), tires we're at the end of their life, passenger wiper didn't work, & (if you follow this blog) the infamous couldn't make it to Lawrence fiasco from 2 summers ago, we'll call it a stalling issue? Jettie did get me home from that botched attempt to leave town with her, but it was her way of saying, "I'm done".
Under the cloak of night, with expired registration, no insurance, & the thunder of the bad exhaust we crossed Lincoln to jettie's final resting place. As we made the final couple turns to the finish line, I opened her up, pedal nearly to the floor. She roared with contempt through her bad exhaust in between the quiet industrial buildings. We parked, removed the expired plates & left. We did get something for her, not much. We did get our driveway back though.in the driveway, a couple rust nuggets is all that remains...
