first loser...

...me for getting up this early to watch the women or Mrs. Legg. Both I guess. Needed to be colder, muddier, & more technical for her to dominate. The men are going to be flying in these conditions on this tame circuit. I figure I might as well post now since I've got to kill nearly 2 hours before they go...
macbook to the tv worked out well. Think that 50' roll of hdmi is overkill? I could have the laptop in the garage & still be wired to the tv in the basement...
hit the fizz yesterday, 12 bottles of custom, all cane sugar, a sampling from various soda artisans...

couldn't get the whole piece as it rolled by, far right had an auto & the words "death ride 2000"...

oh yeah, we rode yesterday. West for a bit, then North, blah, blah, blah...

usually ends like this...

The commute right now is a little more stressed than I like, snow on the side streets is everywhere from loose & squirrely to packed down so hard its polished to flat-out icy. Everyday it melts a bit & then refreezes overnight, ride home in slop & back in on the new ice. Often my journey is stalled out by random coal trains, I could detour to the bike trail along Salt Creek but it's unplowed & unrideable at the moment...
I'll leave this up to your imagination as to what this is or looks like...
sitting at my desk yesterday morning, I was spacing off & noticed a rock with something resting on it hiding behind my adding machine. Hmmm? a rusty Sidi toe spike, wonder how long that's been back there. Years maybe...
it usually starts as an innocent game of "chase each other around with a stuffed animal", classic "whoever has it the other one wants it" scenario. it usually ends something like this...

happy moon-day...

I had to get rid of that Saturday pic. These 2 are koo-koo for car rides. Doesn't matter where or how long. Favorite destination is the bank because the tellers give them treats.

the long way home...

...well not that much longer, lets call it a different yet slightly longer journey. Searchin' for first tracks & some fresh pow. Single digits with a strong NW but the sun was shining & the wind was at my back.
side note: check out the green Salsa skewer, when I was building this ride back in '03 I couldn't finish cuz I was needing a skewer, back then my parts bin was weak sauce. Stopped by the old LBC (r.i.p.) & JT hooked me up with this little beauty out of his own stash. Thanks man, still rockin' it...

As I write, wunderground's calling it .2 degrees with a zero windchill, no problem...

tribute...

...to the commute. I've been riding this bike since '03, back & forth from the workplace. Some folks have been known to say, "we need to get you a mountain bike". Well, I've got a mountain bike. Had it since '03. I remember the innocent days of pre-'04, before racing, before gears. Back then I was convinced that bikes began & ended with one gear, why would you need more?
anyway,back to the commute...

If I were to guess that front Bontrager Revolt SuperX has been on there since '04/'05? I just recently replaced the rear SuperX because it had zero tread & cord showing. See my commute is only 3 miles one way, so I'm not too hard on the equipment. If I were to guess again...the brake pads on the Avid SingleDigit 7's are original. I don't remember ever changing them, as a matter of fact I have replacement pads in my tool box that I purchased years ago & never used.

The chain is either the 2nd but probably the 3rd? in all these years. Original BB, never been pulled (yikes) & the seat post has been in there since I built it up back in '03. May need a blow torch to remove those 2 items, that is if I ever have too. Stem has always been too long but never dealt with it. Phil Wood hubs, 32 spoke to Bontrager somethings? Never been trued, never needed to be. Rock solid, thanks Mean Todd.

Pace carbon fork, ordered it from England. Couldn't get it in the US back then, maybe still can't, I don't know. Gearing? I'd have to go look but I'm going to guess 36X17, maybe 16?

Its been the perfect commuter. Always gets me there and back, with little to zero maintenance. 350ish days a year. Again I'm guessing but there's at least a cumulative 2 weeks each year that I don't ride to the office for one reason or another.

thanks spottie...

strangest sighting of oh-10...

This was either a 4 or 5 am ride, 1-16-10. After we cleared town...we paused, something caught our eye in the night sky. Almost a year later & I still have no explanation for it, maybe you had to be there. Butch, me, FOB, m-dub, & C-bread...we still haven't spoken of what we saw (or didn't see) that cold January morning...
