the macaroni sessions...

Chapter 3 - My Morning with Kung Fu Panda. Rolled out to the secret training grounds yesterday to find a group of non-cyclists occupying a portion of the track. Quickly, plan B was implemented, proceeded to the quasi-secret track at a second location. It was at this fall-back venue that I discovered Po. His infectious smile set the tone for the session. Thanks buddy.
The beginning of the 3rd phase of my year has begun. Phase 1 was early season long gravel events which concluded with a messy crash @ DK. Phase 2 was complete disarray, matters out of my control kept me scrambling for ride time & my mood soured. Now phase 3 dawns...intensity, intensity, intensity. I really enjoy this time of year. Go somewhere, do what you need to do, & call it good. I'll still see some gravel time but 5+ hour adventures will be on hold until winter.

Before I left the backup track, I paid tribute...
hell yeah...

hell yeah it was tough...

G-dubs 2010 in the books, I didn't take my camera, figured if I saw something I had to take a picture of I would use the camera on my phone. As humid as it was I would have only had a bunch of sweaty lens shots of the ride anyway. Have to settle with words here & folks pictures elsewhere.

Rather than try to thank everyone (and possibly leave someone out) who made this event a success I'm just going to thank everyone who had anything to do with pulling this off, no matter how small. Thank you! I will single out Cornbread though, dude gives up riding in Gravel Worlds & works his a$# off to pull this event off. He's the kind of selfless guy who strives to make sure we all have a great experience suffering on our bikes. Thanks man.

We're fortunate here in Lincoln to have a dedicated group of individuals whose primary goal is to pedal their bikes on the awesome back roads of our beautiful region. There's many other outpost's of like-minded individuals just like our little community & we all came together for a single purpose, to spend a great day on the bike. 96 "official" starters & numerous pirates started the day, not bad for a free, semi-underground, 149 mile punisher of a ride.

If you didn't make it Lincoln yesterday & today your saying, "damn I wished I could have been there..." Yep, you missed out & I wish you could have been here.

What a day. I hope everyone had as much fun as I did, thanks for coming!

So I'm just south of Ashland Rd. on NW40th heading North & I see this guy heading South. It's Super Don! Haven't seen this guy in quite some time. We stopped & chatted for about 10 minutes, got caught up a bit. Great seeing you man, made my day.
oh yeah...we were both on our Serotta Legend Ti's.

ThNG worm hole...

no particular place to go last night...
still rockin' the macaroni...

hmmm? what's this? Sign said "dead end", that's not a dead end I can see a road...(unsure why this is underlined, I can't get rid of it)

Definitely not a dead end, actually it was an abandoned gravel road. Not MMR, just an old road...
Not maintained for sure, not even used by farmers, going good so far...

and then this, a quarter mile of bush wackin'...

the exit...
I looked down at my tires to see numerous goat heads stuck in the tread, uh oh...

I was at least 15 miles from home with just one tube. I resisted the urge to extract any of the foreign objects & started to ride, unsure how far I'd make it. As I rode I mentally worked out how I would describe to my wife how to find me & then explain how I got into this predicament. I would tell her I thought I found a worm hole & I thought it might take me down by Beatrice or something like that. Turns out I didn't have to explain myself at all, a minor gravel miracle occurred & I made it home. I haven't been out to the garage this morning so I may have a couple flats waiting for me?
